Marshall T. Rose is Chief
of Protocol at Invisible Worlds, Inc. where
he is responsible both for the Blocks architecture and the server-side implementation.
In addition to his duties as Chief of Protocol, Rose is Principal of Dover Beach Consulting, Inc., a promoter of tractable Internet technologies. He is also Chief Technical Officer of MessageMedia, the leading source of e-messaging services. Rose lives with internetworking technologies, as a theorist, implementor, and agent provocateur. He formerly held the position of IETF Area Director for Network Management, one of a dozen individuals who oversee the Internet's standardization process. Rose is held accountable for the design, specification, and implementation of several Internet-standard technologies, and as an author of over 60 of the Internet's RFCs. He is the author of several professional texts (on Internet Management, Electronic Mail, and Directory Services) published in four languages. His latest book, Internet Messaging: From the Enterprise to the Desktop, was written with David Strom and features an amusing foreword by Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller.
Rose received the Ph.D. degree in
Information and Computer Science
from the University of California, Irvine,
in 1984.
His subscriptions to

are in good standing.
